Tamáayawut, Mother Earth, and Túukumit, Father Sky, live and breathe
as one. In Payómkawichum (Luiseno) story these two relatives make up
this place we all call home, chamki. They have existed since time
immemorial. Extending from the canyons to the islands of the sea,
Tamáayawut lies looking up at Túukumit who blankets the sky with
stars.
