In Payómkawichum (Luiseno) culture, Tamáayawut is the female
personification of the Earth. She is the mountains, the hills, the
rocks that weep, the rivers, the plants, the oak trees and flowers.
She lays along the waníicha, Santa Margarita river, beginning in the canyon and extending into the ocean’s Channel Islands. Tamáayawut is our relative. She holds us in kwavichu, loving care.
